This recipe is simple and perfect for a cold morning. My children love these biscuits and delight when I make them on Saturday mornings!
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 stick or ½ cup of softened butter
- ¾ cups cold milk
Preheat your oven to 350°
Mix flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into a bowl. Mix. Then gradually cut softened butter into the dry ingredients. Mix the ingredients until you get a course texture. Add the milk. Mix until most ingredients are incorporated.
Remove dough from the bowl onto a lightly floured surface. Fold dough until you have a dough dry enough to roll out without sticking and cut into biscuits. Do not overwork your dough.
Flatten your dough to about 1/2 of an inch to 3/4 of an inch tall for a nice tall rise. Cut dough and place evenly onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Top each biscuit with a light brush of melted or spreadable butter on the top of the biscuit before placing into the oven.
I usually use unsalted butter with this recipe. Also, I usually get about 6-8 small biscuits from this recipe, you may need to double if you are making large biscuits or if you need to make a dozen.
